TIRLEY FARM
Originally built in the early part of the19th Century as a cattle farm, Tirley Farm was originally comprised of the farmhouse, the cider barn and the milking parlour as well as over 80 acres of land. The site structures have hosted both the working and private lives of a number of previous owners and the character of the site is the result of multiple and visible adjustments to the site ownership and building uses.
Our proposal for the next series of alterations aims to explore the farmhouse’s relationship with its landscape. In the first instance, the ground floor extension aligns the Farmhouse with the existing cider barn to create a new paved courtyard. The chimney acts a structural column providing a pivot and crank in the plan. The internal layout - including the breakfast bar, the internal dining, and the external dining - have been orientated to align with the long views across the landscape and to follow the moving sunlight.
