BUTTERNUT BOX WORKPLACE

EllEll began working with Butternut Box, a specialist in the production of fresh dog food, in 2019. The brief was to design and deliver the internal fit out for their offices and welfare facilities within a new factory and with a limited budget.

The business has continued to grow and, in 2023, they agreed to lease a second facility on the same site in Doncaster. Butternut Box, in collaboration with ddK Ltd, approached EllEll to design and deliver the same brief as the 2019 facility however with an enlarged budget and an ambitious aspiration to align the working environment and welfare of their employees with their wider business principles, this included placing an emphasis on the Butternut brand to create a sense of belonging.

The design proposals for the new site place the employees at the fore. The Eatery, or canteen, is physically centred in the plan and the design of the room presents itself as the heart of the building where the office and production staff are encouraged to come together and eat with one another. This has been achieved through the design of bespoke pieces of joinery that house the kitchen, provide high level seating as well as booth and banquette seating that is all surrounded by planting and bespoke lighting. The pieces of joinery are distinctive and painted using the company’s clearly identifiable branding colours.
